TarkkaFyrkka (“Be Wise With Money”) is a cooperation project with Suomen Asiakastieto Oy, a company that registers the credit information of Finnish people. The goal of the project is to strengthen young people’s financial literacy and provide tools for discussing money, seeking help, and understanding one’s own financial situation.
The collaboration first started in 2016 when Asiakastieto was looking for new affective ways of preventing the indebtedness of young people.
Project activities have included:
- interactive workshops for young people in middle schools, high schools, and vocational schools with changing focus and learning methods,
- providing tools and materials for teachers to use in class and promoting the importance of financial education,
- educating teachers and other adults working in both formal and informal education on indebtedness of young people and on how to foster the skills for financial management.
Youth Academy assembles and trains a network of school visitors, who conduct workshops in schools within their own regions. The school visits and workshop materials we offer are free of charge for teachers and can be ordered through our Finnish website.
TarkkaFyrkka school visits have been highly requested, largely due to the societal importance of preventing financial difficulties. Teachers recognize the need to support day-to-day financial management skills, and the participatory and interactive methods have been welcomed to promote different ways of learning and encourage independent thinking.
