DiscoverEU Meet Ups in Summer 2025: Adventures in Rovaniemi and Tampere

In August, we again organized two international DiscoverEU Meet up events in Finland — this time in Rovaniemi and Tampere.

The Meet ups brought together nearly 30 interrailers from across Europe, along with Finnish DiscoverEU ambassadors.

In Rovaniemi, the program included visits to the Arktikum and Pilke Science Centres, sauna and water activities at the Roiske water park, trips to Santa Claus Village and a reindeer farm, summer sledding, exploring Finnish nature, and grilling sausages on Ounasvaara hill.

In Tampere, we went rooftop walking in the Finlayson area, enjoyed a traditional sauna at Rajaportti, tasted the famous donuts (“munkki”) at the Pyynikki Observation Tower, and visited the Moomin Museum, the Nootti Museum, Näsinneula Tower, and the Särkänniemi amusement park.

This year, the weather wasn’t quite as sunny as last year, but clouds and rain didn’t slow us down. The atmosphere remained warm, the program ran joyfully as planned, and the sun even peeked out from time to time.

Participants in both Meet ups said they made new friends, learned about Finnish culture and the cultures of other participants, and felt inspired to take part in future international mobility opportunities or projects.

DiscoverEU is an action under the Erasmus+ programme that offers 18-year-old European youth opportunities to explore the continent travelling by rail.

Youth Academy organizes DiscoverEU Meet ups for young people taking part in the action in Finland in 2024–2026. Meet ups are also organized in other countries participating in the DiscoverEU action.

Do you work with young people around the age of 18 who might be interested in exploring Europe by train? The next DiscoverEU application round takes place from 30 October to 13 November!

The ongoing application round is targeted for young people born between 1 January and 31 December 2007.

More information and instructions on how to apply can be found on the DiscoverEU website of the European Youth Portal (available in different languages) or on the DiscoverEU website of the Finnish National Agency for Education (in Finnish). Spread the word!
